After a 25-year career in business, ApeCoin DAO Contributor Bigbull is looking to make some big changes at the ApeCoin DAO as the community’s next Governance Working Group Steward, focusing on getting more $Ape holders engaged in the community, working towards making the DAO financially sustainable, and leading the charge towards ApeChain and other internal automations!
The winter election season of 2023 is underway at the ApeCoin DAO, with five $Apes running to be the DAO’s next Governance Working Group Steward. Among the candidates vying for this position is Bigbull.
“I am honored to nominate myself as a Steward for the Governance Working Group (GWG),” BigBull wrote on his candidate page. “We need the GWG to be comprised of members with complementary skillsets, a clear understanding of the current ApeCoin Dao Governance structure so can quickly as a group to implement solutions. The Special Council and the three Governance Stewards need to agree on a clear vision so that we can sail the ship in one direction. We need those with strong industry experience to find ways to further decentralize governance and increase the adoption of ApeCoin.”
To find out more about Bigbull’s candidacy, his plans to expand the Governance Working Group’s scope, and where he’d like to see the DAO a year from now, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to him for an interview. Check it out below:
1. In a sentence or two why are you running for this position?
“I am running as I see I can make a difference in the future outcome of the ApeCoin Dao. Doing the same things but incrementally better will not get us to significantly different outcomes.”
2. How would you describe the role of a Governance Working Group Steward? What does this role entail?
“It is important to note the GWG must deliver on its outstanding commitments. Once that is done then we can move to do what needs to be done to take ApeCoin to the next level. Next Level:
Developing the right Governance structures creates a healthy system in which more parties can join and thrive in the ApeCoin Ecosystem.
There are two distinct parts:
1. Evolutionary- Business as Usual.a. Facilitating the AIP process, elections, and managing GWG multi-sig.b. Automation and improvements of the workflow and processes of the DAO.
2. Revolutionary - Breaking new ground to grow the DAO.a. Full innovations in structures behind the DAO, such as ApeChain and Investments.I believe any future GWG AIP funding requests should be with an expanded scope.
The scope is based on the three core areas to expand:
1. Community Engagement.
2. Financial Sustainability (beyond purely a Grant model).
3. Technical Leadership and Innovation.
Previous Commitments the current scope of the GWG is outlined in AIP-317. It is defined as providing neutral and objective governance oversight and support for the operations of the ApeCoin DAO.
This includes, but is not limited to:
• Providing operational support and project management support for the Foundation.
• Coordinating the team of moderators, administrators, and leaders in Discourse.
• Assisting with transitioning of Foundation service providers.
• Creating and maintaining policies and procedures as they relate to governance.
• Maintaining operations and supporting governance Initiatives like the Ape Assembly and the DAO Secretary.
• Assisting with facilitating the Special Council Election Process as outlined in AIP-137: The Special Council Nomination Process, and AIP-138: The Special Council Election Process.
The Governance Stewards are not employees of the ApeCoin Foundation and are contract providers to the GWG DAO LLC. Therefore, they are reliant on going through the AIP process for funding.
The current budget will expire by approximately March 2024 when AIP-317 funding is exhausted.We need to take the GWG and the ApeCoin Dao to the Next Level, thus enhancing the value proposition of ApeCoin and its adoption and demand.”
3. Why are you the right person for the job? How has your past experiences prepared you for this?
“I think a better way is to ask why you are the right person to be in a leadership role delivering core services to realize the potential of the ApeCoin Dao. I have a deep business experience in Governance and Operations. Also, I have a broad network which can be shown by receiving 18m votes in the first round of the elections. Joined Discourse March 17, 2022 and one of the most active contributors to date.”
4. What ideas or initiatives would you like to enact if elected?
“1. Community Engagement - Expansion in the decentralization of voting and broader AIP applicants.2. Financial Sustainability – Moving beyond a purely Grant model.3. Technical Leadership and Innovation - ApeChain and internal automation.
5. If you could unilaterally change one thing at the DAO today what would you change or do?
“I strongly recommend that the DAO invests in opportunities that foster self-sustainable. Such investments will not only empower individuals and communities but also create a sustainable future.”
6. Where would you like to see the Governance Working Group a year from now?
“The GWG will be providing expanded support to the overall ApeCoin Dao. I would like to see a more united and organized entity where stewards (including Marcomms and Metaverse) and Special Council work in sync. Many of the internal processes will have been streamlined and more automated. We would have facilitated the progress to get the best ApeChain possible launched for the ApeCoin Dao and created Governance structures for the expansion of its adoption.We would have also created new structures to disperse funding no matter whether from a grant (micro, small, or large) or investments. In essence to have Apecoin as the Coin of Culture now and in the long term future.”
