MEOW IN THE METAVERSE: Internet Icon Nyan Cat Just Popped Up On The Otherside!

In 2011, online artist Christopher Torres created Nyan Cat, a pixel art animation of a gray cat with a PopTart body flying through space, leaving a rainbow trail in its wake!

 

 

And today, that OG internet meme made its way to the Otherside!

 

 

“Nyan Cat collectors can now play as OG Nyan Cat on @OthersideMeta,” the project tweeted on Saturday. “This continues Nyan Cat’s adventure where you can own your art and play with it, too. Big thank you to @apewhale for the help and Otherside team including us.”

 

 

Getting Nyan Cat from meme to the blockchain and now into the Otherside has been years in the making.

 

Torres originally sold a 1/1 NFT of his iconic flying feline back in 2021 before following it up with the official Nyan Cat collection, Nyan Balloons, and several collaborations that brought the legendary meme onchain.

Now, Nyan Cat is taking its next step into the metaverse thanks to longtime BAYC member and Nyan Cat fan ApeWhale, along with several builders from around the Otherside community.

 

“Let's go! W for iconic IP in the Otherside,” BAYC member and Nyan Cat fan ApeWhale said. “Thanks @PRguitarmanfor bearing with us as we got this implemented. Props to  @RidazLp2 as always with the avatar work,  @imjameshall for getting them playable in Otherside, and  @RagPoet for the heads up. This one is so cool because my kid actually knows what  @NyanCat is. Earned some cool dad points on this one.”

 

Tonight, Nyan Cat NFT holders, as well as Torres’ Nyan Balloon holders, can make their way to the Otherside as the iconic internet cat.
