NFT Community Founders And Notable CryptoPunks React To Yuga Labs IP Acquisitions

Major voices in the NFT and crypto space react to Yuga Labs acquisition of CryptoPunks and Meebits.

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Yuga Labs, the parent company of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, acquired the CryptoPunks and Meebits collections from LarvaLabs yesterday evening.

Following the announcement, major voices in the crypto community shared their thoughts on the acquisition.

“Huge congrats to the genius thinking of @yugalabs and hats off to @Larvalabs

for doing this, it's what is best for the ecosystem,” RTFKT Studios Co-founder Benit0 tweeted shortly after the deal was announced. “Creators, Builders, Collectors, we each have our skills and role to combine to build the Metaverse. AMAZING MOVE.”

Fellow project founder and BAYC member Bobby Hundreds, echoed Benit0’s comments and tweeted that he thinks we could see more acquisitions of IP going forward.

“What happens next: Hopefully, in the immediate, the Yuga deal galvanizes the entire ecosystem, Hundreds tweeted. “On another level, expect more acquisitions. Happens in every industry, every marketplace, every time there's a seismic move like this.”

CryptoPunk holder Plum, Punk6333 on Twitter, agreed with Hundreds’ view on more acquisitions in the future. “Yuga made a very smart move ngl, now even if BAYC franchise fails they have punks to fall back on,” the CryptoPunk tweeted. “They will also probably acquire every strong project that can challenge them from now on, they made it, LL failed.”

Notable CryptoPunk, CryptoPunk6529 also sounded off on Twitter regarding the deal. In a 62-tweet thread, Punk6529 shared his thoughts on Yuga Labs, the BAYC and CryptoPunks. His thread is worth a read and can give apes an interesting perspective on what CrpytoPunk6529 believes punk holders want YugaLabs to do with their new IP.

“Oddly enough the best move for Yuga right now with punks is to do very little and keep focusing on BAYC-world,” Punk6529 tweeted. “Yuga has done the thing that LL *should* have done which is let punks be more free on IP.”
