Oh what a difference a year can make!

On Saturday, hundreds of Voyagers gathered for a special one year anniversary edition of Other Games, celebrating one year of the always on Otherside metaverse with a first look at, and playthrough of, a Bone Otherdeed designed by community member turned Yuga Labs ODK Community Development Lead, Tropical Virtual.

On July 25, 2025, the Bored Ape Yacht Club hosted its very first Meet at the Clubhouse inside Otherside Bubbles, where the team announced that the metaverse would officially become persistent, meaning anyone could ape in and explore whenever they wanted.

“We are just going to leave it on,”  Yuga Labs’ then Chief Product Officer turned CEO Michael Figge said. “That means whether its later today or tomorrow, a couple days from now, we are just leaving this exact set up on.”

Back then, the metaverse was a much smaller place. Only Apes and Voyager robots could enter, and the Swamp was the only world available to explore.

Even so, the culture was already taking shape.

Just days after the persistent metaverse launched, community members GSpot, MoreThanHype, Makaveli, and Honey B started what would become the now-iconic weekend tradition known as Other Games.

“We're doing this to have more fun experiences in the world of building experiences,” Honey B told the Gazette at the time.“To get more people coming back to Otherside and being creative themselves and really to build up the community and culture of ApeChain."

In the weeks and months that followed, Otherside changed a lot!  Hundreds of NFT collections made their way into the metaverse, Command Line released its games Bathroom Blitz and Outbreak, and Yuga Labs unveiled an entirely new world known as the Nexus, complete with mini games, daily challenges, and a cinematic introduction for new players.

To celebrate the Otherside’s first anniversary today, Other Games hosted a special community event, inviting everyone to explore a brand new Bone Otherdeed world created by Tropical Virtual. The experience gave Voyagers a glimpse at what's possible as creators get ready to build around the Swamp.

From racing through winding canyons to riding rails through the spines, Apes, Meebs, Voyagers, and more explored Tropical Virtual's world together, while enjoying company of  Otherside's greatest strength, its community.

“Christened the @OtherGamesXYZ new bone deed,” Cinema D tweeted. “Epic event and build.”

Following the event, Tropical Virtual thanked everyone who attended and reflected on how meaningful it was to launch his world on such a special day!

“Didn't imagine I would be launching a world on the one year anniversary of persistent @OthersideMeta,” he tweeted. “Honored that I could. Grateful for the @OtherGamesXYZ team for the opportunity, and super humbled by the turnout in game for this event. Otherside community constantly reminds you why we are here building. Today was another one of those days. Appreciate you @morethenhype @honeybd @MakaveliDlaCruz @Timmygspt for the chance to build. Thanks to @Itsangie for always assisting me so I can make these things possible. And special shout out to @pm0721for helping us get this world out the door. Excited for the next world. This is just the beginning.”

The Gazette will continue following all things Otherside and will keep you posted as the metaverse continues to become a reality and will let you know when and how you can build. Stay tuned for updates!
