Q&A: This AIP Aims To find Out More About The Role Of Special Council Members.

The ApeCoin DAO is voting on an ape Improvement Proposal this week that aims to find out more about the day-to-day duties of the DAO’s Special Council.

AIP-282 titled “Information Request - Role of Special Council,” is an informational proposal written by ApeCoin DAO Contributor BadTeeth.

“The goal of this AIP idea is to establish a clear understanding of the current responsibilities of the Special Council,” BadTeeth wrote. “The Ape Foundation and the current SC are asked to provide this information to the community within 15 days of this AIP passing in the form of a written document that clearly outlines the day-to-day responsibilities, requirements, and expectations of the SC members.”

Currently, the best explanation that $Ape holders have about the roles and responsibilities of an ApeCoin DAO Special Council member come from AIP-137; which established the position’s nomination process.

“Elected Special Council members are expected to attend weekly, or on an as-needed basis, council meetings, review AIPs at meetings or by email, and commit 3 or more hours per week or as sufficient time as needed to the role," AIP-137 states. "A standard non-disclosure agreement shall be entered into with the Ape Foundation and KYC documents shall be collected as well.”

To find out more about AIP-282 and what BadTeeth hopes to accomplish through this proposal, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to him for an interview. Check it out below:

1.What inspired you to write this proposal?

“The general lack of understanding around the Special Council role, the focus on compensation during the last election season, and the fact that the role has clearly evolved beyond how it was described in AIP-137.”

2.What do you hope this AIP accomplishes?

“The goal of this AIP idea is to establish a clear understanding of the current responsibilities, requirements, and expectations of the Special Council. The amount of time people have spent arguing about SC compensation without any clarity on what the role entails is a huge distraction to the DAO.”

3. Why should the community vote in favor of this information request?

“There’s currently no clarity around the responsibilities and no specific job description for the highest compensated role in the DAO. This causes a ton of confusion amongst the DAO, SC candidates, voters, and the general public. This AIP is a first step towards sorting that out.”

4. What do you think the community will find out if this request is approved?

“Ideally we’ll find out the exact responsibilities of the SC so we can fairly evaluate how the role fits into our DAO’s governance process.”

5. Assuming this is passed and the Foundation answers. What would happen next?

“The Ape Foundation and the current SC are asked to provide a written document that clearly outlines the day-to-day responsibilities, requirements, and expectations of the SC members within 15 days of this AIP passing.”

6. What recourse does the community have if they don’t like what they see?

“The SC works for the DAO and are elected by the community, so it’s up to the community to decide how to shape the role to be most effective in our governance process.”

The window to vote on AIP-282 is currently open and $Apes have until tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST, to cast their coins on this proposal.
