Rock bottom? Not even close!

On Sunday, an anonymous NFT collector named 0xbroo on OpenSea, with a penchant for pictures and pebbles, purchased an Ether Rock for 41.8 ETH, or roughly $75,000 USD!

As the Gazette previously reported, Ether Rocks is a collection of just 100 NFTs and one of the earliest projects on Ethereum, launching shortly after CryptoPunks in 2017. Originally intended as "pet rocks on the blockchain," the project has become one of the longest running memes and status symbols in Web3, and has even been featured on CNBC.

“These virtual rocks serve NO PURPOSE beyond being able to be brought and sold, and giving you a strong sense of pride in being an owner of 1 of the only 100 collectible rocks :),” Ether Rocks wrote.

Tonight, we don't know much about 0xbroo or what inspired today's purchase, but we do know they have a taste for some of Web3's rarest digital collectibles.

0xbroo's collection includes a Fidenza, a Ringer, a Squiggle, two V1 CryptoPunks, two Pudgy Penguins, several Beeple artworks, a Moonbird, and a single Check from Jack Butcher's Checks collection.

The Gazette will continue to follow 0xbroo and will let you know what they pick up next. Stay tuned for updates!
