Amid quirky physical art and Wes Anderson vibes, The Del Mundos were getting squirrelly on the timeline today as they introduced the Web3 world to a new character named Squirrel, who may be the key to everything!

On Thursday, The Del Mundos released their second DocumentaRAY episode, explaining how Ray Del Mundo went from a nonplayable character inside a metaverse video game to spreading “people powered positivity” here on Earth, and it’s all thanks to Squirrel.

In the nearly two minute video, the Del Mundos got into the lore around squirrels, explaining that their society runs of urine and that they are all named Squirrel!

One day, this Squirrel wandered into the woods and discovered two golden acorns. When he rubbed them together, he inadvertently opened a rift between our world and the metaverse, bringing Ray Del Mundo to Earth.

Today’s video follows the first DocumentaRAY episode released earlier this week.

In that episode, the Del Mundos introduced Ray, revealing he had been cleaning toilets inside an ammunition storage facility in a zero gravity first person shooter game before arriving in our world.

As the Gazette previously reported, The Del Mundos is a collection of 10,000 characters that were not digitally generated but physically created using recycled plastics and fabrics. Each character was carefully posed and photographed before being minted onchain.

Looking ahead, the team is continuing to build out Ray, Squirrel, and the wider universe surrounding them, which they say will center on storytelling and suprises!

“For us its always been about fun first and how we can bring the community around fun and positivity and drive value back to the community, while doing something positive with that energy, “Co-Founder Charlie said on Spaces last week. “The art is our foundation. But from there it’s about building out story, IP, and partnerships. And having a strategic order of initiatives we’ve been developing to roll out in a certain order for our plans to be cemented, and to work and to give the project longevity.”

The Gazette will continue to follow The Del Mundos. Stay tuned for updates.
