The ApeChain Mainnet Is Scheduled To Go Live In The Arbitrum Orbit Chain In Either Late June Or Early July. Here's What You Need To Know:

ApeChain is going live later this summer, and developers are starting to line up to build on $Ape, according to Horizen Labs’ VP of Ecosystem Growth, Blockchainzilla.

On Friday, the ApeCoin DAO held a Twitter Space titled ‘Does ApeCoin Need A Roadmap?’ where Blockchainzilla, aka Spencer, announced that ApeChain already had 34 builders who were either committed or close to committing to building on ApeChain. Spencer also revealed that the second ApeChain testnet will launch either later this month or early next month, and that he, along with the Horizen Labs, Offchain Labs, and Arbitrum teams, plans to launch the ApeChain mainnet in the Arbitrum Orbit Chain ecosystem in either late June or early July.

“The vision is for ApeChain to be the biggest of the Orbit Chains,” Spencer said. “To be the most important of the Orbit Chains. And to be the center of it and have that opportunity.  You look over on the OP side and there is so much great stuff happening on Optimism, but then you look at Base, which is the most important of the other super chains that are on OP mainnet. To me I want Apechain to be like that within the Arbitrum Orbit ecosystem. Ya Apechain is an L3 but it should be thought of as one of the best chains out there, one of the most popular chains out there, and one of the easiest to on and offboard and have all that stuff. But we also want to be a good community member within the Orbit ecosystem. We want to be involved in the Orbit ecosystem. We want to be working on interoperability. We want to be working on things where we are doing things with others. To me this isn’t alpha, but if you were to ask me where all the NFT activity is happening, I’d say it’s in the Arbitrum ecosystem. There is a reason that as Apes we picked Arbitrum. There’s a reason that Azuki is there. The stuff that Treasure is doing and that Smols are doing and all that kind of stuff. That’s where the NFT activity is happening. An yeah, we want to be at the center of it.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the ApeCoin DAO selected Horizen Labs, Offchain Labs, and the Arbitrum team to develop its ApeChain as part of Arbitrum’s Orbit chains in February 2024.

“Apechain is being built as an Arbitrum Orbit chain,” Spencer said in an ApeCoin DAO Space on April 25. “It is going to be a gaming first, but not gaming only chain. Its ultimately supposed to be a theme park for ApeCoin, where everything is denominated ApeCoin, not just the gas fees. Pairs are in ApeCoin, incentives are in ApeCoin. We are trying to get on games, applications, protocols that are all using ApeCoin in their economies.”

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow the development of ApeChain and will let you know when the second testnet goes live and who is building on $Ape as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for updates!
