Today's Candy drop was going, going, gone! But the job isn't done.

On Wednesday, sports and entertainment collectibles company Candy knocked another Major League Baseball NFT drop out of the park on Solana as the once defunct brand continued its comeback under former Sotheby's CEO and Bored Ape Yacht Club member Tad Smith.

“Thanks to all @CandyDigital fans on our second very successful (sold out in 90 seconds or so pilot pack drop,” Smith tweeted. “Special thanks to my colleagues who made a number of improvements for today’s drop based on fan feedback last week. Still a tweak or two to improve further before next week so please share feedback at fan-help@candy.io.”

As the Gazette previously reported, Smith first revealed plans to acquire Candy Digital back in March 2026 before officially completing the acquisition in May, with the goal of revitalizing the platform and pushing digital collectibles forward.

Since then, Smith and his team have brought the platform back after years offline, migrated it to Solana, and sold all 1,000 MLB Base Series pilot packs across the platform's first two drops. But they're just getting started.

Smith announced that tomorrow he and the team plan to open Candy's secondary marketplace, giving collectors the ability to buy, sell, and trade their collectibles both on Candy and across the broader Solana ecosystem, including marketplaces like Magic Eden.

“This move will constitute full “self custody” which has been the goal of http://Candy.io: for our fans to have security and “true” ownership over their digital collectibles,” he tweeted. “Moreover, our fans’ assets will be on the @solana network with the @metaplex core technology to enable royalty enforcement for our client licensors as well as utility within our fans’ collectibles that  @CandyDigital will soon seek to demonstrate… Beginning tomorrow with the distribution of these private keys, everything changes…little by little and then (hopefully) all at once.”

Smith is also slated to appear on an X Space with Metaplex tomorrow at 4 p.m. EST, where he'll discuss Candy's future and everything the team is building. You can RSVP below:

Looking ahead, Candy Digital's next MLB Base Series drop is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, and will feature 1,500 packs and everyone’s invited to ape in.

The Gazette will continue to follow all things Candy and will keep you posted as Smith and his team continue the platform's comeback. Stay tuned for updates!
