The Yugaverse Loved The 'Guns, Mayhem, And Jank' Of The First Project Event And Can't Wait To Ape Back In Next Month!

After an hour and a half of ‘guns, mayhem, and jank’ on the streets of Meetropolis this afternoon, Voyagers took to the timeline and gave Yuga Labs their two Satoshis on today’s first-ever Project Dragon event!

Win or lose, Apes, Meebits, Voyagers, and more seemed to like what they saw on the Otherside today as they filled the timeline with screenshots and footage of their PFPs assblasting their friends and exploring the voxel world of Meetropolis!

“Yeah it's buggy, yeah it's barebones, yeah we're a far cry from where we all thought Otherside would be at this point, but Project Dragon is legit fun,” longtime BAYC member TropoFarmer wrote. “plus, look at this gorgeous ass view.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Yuga Labs CEO Garga warned everyone that there would be a lot of jank in this first Project Dragon event for weeks and reminded the community that they are still ‘early af’ to Otherside.

“This is the worst version of Project Dragon you're ever going to experience, because we're going to be iterating on this game every single month,” he wrote last night. "Expect balance changes, new features, UI/UX additions, etc. Tell us what you want to see.”

During Project Dragon today, the game did have some jank and hiccups, but the Yuga Labs team learned a lot from the experience.

“OK - Good news: We can get action gameplay for thousands, and it's hilariously chaotic. On a platform level, shit's working,” Garga wrote in the middle of the game. “Bad news: Doing this at scale revealed some bugs that didn't show up when we did internal tests with only a few hundred. Only thing I can promise is everything will be multiple times more polished this time next next month, and you'll never have a quiet period like the distance between First/2nd Trip etc again. Doing a quick restart of the server for another go to see if some hotfixes helped.”

Regardless of the jank, everyone seemed to have a lot of fun running around the metaverse as their PFPs, and everyone is excited for Project Dragon’s second event next month.

“It was tons of fun. I love the collaborative spirit of allowing club members to test, contribute, and be a part of the journey,” BAYC member Sheftali tweeted. “There’s lots to be done, but I have no doubt this will be one of the sickest games in Web3. Would love to contribute from a UX pov if there’s room.”

Following the event, Garga thanked the thousand-plus community members for spending their Saturday afternoons with their online friends and promised that today’s event was just the beginning and that the future of Otherside is anything but boring.

“THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our first Project Dragon playtest today,” he said. “We had well over a thousand of you running and gunning around Meetropolis as your apes, meebs, and voyagers. The start of something beautiful imo. We're building this game in public, and we're doing it all with the ODK - the same toolset we're going to be making available to the community. So while we've got a ton of learnings and a fair share of bugs to sort, we're stoked to have you join us for the next Dragon event in a few weeks. And don't forget to join us August 14th for Poker Night - a special charity event in Meetropolis. More details to come. Long live aqua.”

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow all things Project Dragon and will let you know when you can ape into the game again. Stay tuned for updates!
