And this little piggie became a Normie!

On Friday, HV-MTL owner and prolific NFT collector Adam Weitsman announced that the next artists to take part in his Normies art experiment would be the legendary duo behind Larva Labs, Matt Hall and John Watkinson.

“Today is a very special day,” Weitsman tweeted. “My next  @normiesart experiment is with none other than the true legends of this space  @larvalabs !!!! I love Meebits and Punks and I’m honored to have this artwork forever a part of my Normies collection. Thank you to Matt and John for this epic new piece and please welcome Norman the Meebit Pig.”

The Duos piece, "Norman the Meebit Pig," reimagines one of Larva Labs' iconic voxel characters in a Normie style, blending old and new NFT art into a single piece.

Back in the summer of 2017, Hall and Watkinson changed the digital collectibles world when they launched CryptoPunks on Ethereum as a free claim. In the years since, their work has inspired countless artists and creators to launch projects on crypto rails and share their creations with the world. So it's only fitting that the creators who helped pioneer NFTs would contribute to this pixelated art experiment.

“Moments like this feels unreal,” Normie’s Founder Serc tweeted. “Big shout out to @matthall2000& @pents90 for this amazing contribution to the Normies. Welcome Norman, the Meebit Pig to the Normies. No words, culture is built in real time. Proud holder of CryptoPunks, Proud holder and creator of Normies. “

As the Gazette previously reported, Normies launched in mid-February as a collection of 10,000 onchain generative pixelated faces. What makes the project stand out is its unique burn and customize mechanic, which allows holders to modify one Normie by burning another, gradually reducing the collection's total supply.

In March, Weitsman used this mechanic to burn 50 Normies to create a 1/1 piece dubbed “Skelemoon” in collaboration with artist A.C.K.

Since then, Weitsman has committed his entire collection of more than 350 Normies to a broader initiative to create a series of commissioned works with artists, dubbed Weitsman Art Lab, because, in his view, it's "more epic and fun" that way.

With the addition of Hall and Watkinson, Weitsman has now commissioned works from A.C.K., Jack Butcher, Beeple, and the creators of CryptoPunks and Meebits, turning not only his personal collection but Normies as a whole into a true who's who of onchain art.

The Gazette will continue to follow all things Normies and will let you know what happens next with these pixels. Stay tuned for updates!
