Forget AI fueled hacks, rising interest rates, soaring oil prices and all the recent shutdown announcements across the crypto space, from Abstract to Blur. Just for tonight, NFT collectors everywhere are invited to turn off their screens, grab some popcorn and settle in for two crypto themed horror films that are sure to give even the biggest bulls and believers a fungible fright!
Our first feature is a crypto classic from America's longest running animated sitcom, The Simpsons!
Back in 2023, Springfield's favorite yellow family took on our beloved J-Pegs in its annual Halloween special, Treehouse of Horror XXXIV, poking fun at tokenization, NFT burns, Bored Apes and more!
I won't spoil it here, but the segment, titled "Wild Barts Can't Be Token," combines blockchain technology with a Snowpiercer parody, where high value NFTs live a life of luxury at the front of a train while rugs and worthless J-Pegs are stuck in the back!
The episode also features some familiar faces from across the NFT space, including CryptoKitties, Doodles and some very bored looking "Jaded Apes" at the front of the train!
You can find The Simpsons' NFT themed episode, Season 35, Episode 5, on Disney+, or watch the segment on X thanks to BAYC member Essential!
For collectors looking for something a little more terrifying, there's 2026's NFT: Cursed Images, a horror film by Jonas Odenheimer that gives the phrase "cursed J-Peg" a whole new meaning!
Spolier, there are worse things than getting rugged!
The film centers around a “group of crypto friends experiencing strange occurrences after buying into a cursed NFT collection.”
