WELCOME A-BORED: Yuga Labs Appoints Activision Blizzard's Former COO,Daniel Alegre, As Its New CEO

Things are getting icy around the swamp as Yuga Labs announced that it has appointed Activision Blizzard’s former Chief Operating Officer as its new CEO.

Something is brewing on the Otherside as Yuga Labs announced that Activision Blizzard’s COO, Daniel Alegre, will be joining the team as the company’s new CEO in mid 2023.

In a press release to the Yugaverse community, Bored Ape Yacht Club Co-Founder Greg Solano, AKA Garga, wrote that bringing Alegre into the swamp and making him the new CEO of Yuga Labs will help the company level up!

“When it comes to the metaverse we’re competing with giants,” Garga wrote. “In order to catapult Otherside and our other ambitious projects to new heights, we’ve known for a long time we wanted to bring in someone with a proven track record of building at the highest possible level. Knowing this, Nicole, Wylie, and I have been on the hunt for the right candidate. Our search led us to Daniel Alegre who will become Yuga Labs’ new CEO in the first half of 2023. Daniel is a seasoned, visionary executive who shares our passion for innovation and creativity.”

Prior to working at Activision Blizzard, Alegre spent 16 years at Google where he was the President of Global and Strategic Partnerships, the President of Global Retail, the President of Asia Pacific, among several other roles.

After Yuga Labs’ announcement, Alegre took to LinkedIn and explained why he has decided to ape into the web3 company.

“The Web3 space allows an opportunity to reinvent how we think about ownership and utility of content globally,” Alegre wrote. “The implications are disruptive and at the same time empowering to creators and consumers across most forms of media. Yuga Labs — home to Bored Ape Yacht Club, the Otherside metaverse, CryptoPunks, and other incredible projects — has become a creative powerhouse with ongoing ambitions to be at the forefront of such innovation. I am extremely excited to lead the team to the next phase of growth.”

Along with joining Yuga Labs as the company’s new CEO, Alegre also recently joined the BAYC after he bought an insane Mutant.

Alegre purchased Mutant Ape #3850 on December 15th, according to Opensea data. Mutant Ape #3850 is a five trait M1 Mutant Ape with robot fur, a cowboy hat and an eyepatch.
