A NEW GOLDEN AGE?: BAYC Member Tony T Sells Gold Fur Bored Ape To An Anonymous Crypto Whale For 72 ETH, Or $173K!

The Bored Ape Yacht Club may be entering a new golden age after the first gold fur Ape sale in the last six months!

Friday night was anything but boring in the swamp as longtime BAYC holder Tony T sold Bored Ape #9572 to an anonymous crypto whale for 72 ETH, or roughly $173,000.

 

Tonight, the buyer remains unknown, but onchain data shows the purchase was made using a freshly funded wallet, with funds moved from Kraken exchange, accoriding to Etherscan.

“Good things shouldn't be concentrated in the hands of a few people,” Tony T tweeted. “That's a barrier that prevents newcomers from entering the market.”

 

 

Bored Ape #9572 is a five-trait, solid gold fur primate featuring an S&M hat, an army green background, and a bored, unshaven cigarette mouth.

Last night’s sale comes roughly a year and a half after Tony T purchased the Ape from fellow collector ThisCat for 86 ETH, or about $202,000.

While he may have taken a slight loss on the trade, Tony T believes the move ultimately benefits both the club and his broader, top tier collection.

 

“My idea is that in a healthy community, when new members join, they should be able to buy some PFP that they like,” he said.  “But right now, all the good-looking ones are in the hands of just a few people. So I think it’s enough for everyone to own one or two nice pieces of art. I sensed that people were starting to pay attention to Bayc again, so I simply sold the ape.”
