From out the mud and missing ApeFest to a four figure sale on Solana!
Things were anything but boring around the swamp over the weekend after one Bored Ape Yacht Club member sold a Legendary card from Yuga Labs' new trading card game, Mudwater, for more than $5,000, just 24 hours after the game was unveiled at ApeFest!
While many Apes were either heading home or still partying down South in Charleston, BAYC member and OpenSea AI content creator ExoticRaccoon was at home ripping the two free digital Mudwater packs he received for holding his Mutant Ape.
“I wasn't at apefest,” he tweeted. “So I had to animate myself into the mix and rip a couple packs.”
And what happened next was anything but boring! That's because ExoticRaccoon didn't just pull a good card. He pulled a Legendary foil Founder card featuring the Club's mascot, Curtis!
“No wayyy,” he tweeted along with a screenshot of his hit. “Lets go!!
As the Gazette previously reported, Yuga Labs stealth launched its first ever trading card game, Mudwater, in partnership with Orange Cap Games during ApeFest 2026 at Beeple Studios.
To celebrate the launch, everyone in attendance was gifted a Mudwater game set featuring 24 packs of cards. Meanwhile, every Bored Ape and Mutant Ape was paired with an airdropped ERC-6551 Totem, allowing holders to claim 10 packs per BAYC and two packs per MAYC between now and January 19, 2027!
Unlike traditional trading card games or NFTs, Mudwater collectibles are both digital and physical. Every card someone pulls onchain is backed by a physical counterpart, bringing a whole new meaning to the idea of phygital collectibles!
While pulling a Legendary foil Founder card was already a reason to celebrate, things were about to get even better for this lucky Ape!
Shortly after his pull, ExoticRaccoon sold his shiny new Curtis card to fellow BAYC member DemaNFT for 50 SOL, or $5,072 USD!
“The reason that pushed me to take that card is a purely personal belief because I believe that in the future that will be the base price,” Dema told the Gazette. “When the virtual world intertwines with the physical one it can create something unique, I think the piece in question will then be magnificent and there won't be many of them around in a while… I believe in the idea and I hope that sooner or later they can be found in all the shops so as to broaden the audience to the general public.”
