Aesthetics are in control at the Bored Ape Yacht Club as Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge gives a state of the floor address, highlighting the impact the company’s new over the counter trading desk has had on the collection!

Things were anything but boring around the swamp on Saturday as Figge put into words what many have been seeing onchain for a while now. The floor is rising, grails are getting got, and it’s harder than ever to acquire premier primates and aesthetic Apes.

“there are only 46 gold apes and at this point, it’s very difficult to find an off-market seller willing trade the lowest listed gold ape is 199 eth ($460k) which is effectively double before @GrailsOTC started 3 weeks ago,” Figge wrote. “bids are rising but sellers are not budging digital assets like these have rotated into significantly more diamondhanded positions for gold apes, not only are sellers not budging they pretty much don’t exist.”

As the Gazette previously reported, one of the first things Figge did after stepping in as CEO at Yuga Labs was launch GrailsOTC, an over the counter trading desk that connects collectors with off market sellers and even helps buyers explore financing options for high end assets.

Figge went on to explain that this diamond handedness at the top of the collection is having an impact across all traits and aesthetically pleasing Apes, as more collectors from both inside and outside the ecosystem continue to ape in and buy what they like.

“This is important work because it applies momentum to a quality that is hard to quantify: collector strength,” he wrote. “Paired with our progress on IRL event: I firmly believe the sustained pressure we are applying will yield the results everyone is after - a strong Club on a related note, while the bayc website is deliberately minimal and opaque to the public, we are experimenting with a deeper experience in the members section there are also other strategies, which i will go over this week, that I believe to be under engaged, but full of potential for the bored ape yacht club.”

Figge’s tweet inspired a copypasta trend around the swamp, with Apes everywhere tweeting “aesthetics are in control at the bored ape yacht club” while sharing photos of their primates.

Today’s message on community and collecting rings true and lines up with what Figge’s focus has been around the swamp since officially stepping in as CEO last month.

“Node by node. Collector by collector. Community by community. I think it’s something that reminds the whole space about why we showed up and how it all began,” Figge said on Spaces. “My hope is for the club that it brings a love for collecting back to the whole ecosystem.”

The Gazette will continue to follow Figge as he keeps putting collectors and community front and center around the swamp and beyond. Stay tuned for updates!
