All Eyes Are On Adidas' DMT Fur Inspired Virtual Gear Hoodie

As Adidas unveiled its new Genesis collection, one piece had the Bored Ape Yacht Club tripping out.

On Wednesday Adidas’ “Into The Metaverse” holders got their chance to find out what’s in the impossible box.

“INTRODUCING ADIDAS VIRTUAL GEAR,” the company tweeted along with a 40-second video. “Unveiling the genesis collection of adidas Virtual Gear, an eclectic mix of impossible silhouettes tying together past and future, virtual and physical, communities and creators, culture and identity. Representing our first NFT collection of wearables, a new, interoperable product category “Virtual Gear”, accelerates our collective drive towards strengthening web3, and the adidas community-based, member-first, open metaverse pledge.”

In total, Adidas’ Virtual Gear collection consists of 16 different items. Each of these items are meant to be worn by user's NFTs and their designs were inspired by Adidas’ past, present, and future.

Take a closer look at the items here:

Following Adidas’ reveal, all eyes were on the company’s BAYC DMT inspired hoodie.

“A BAYC archive classic," Adidas wrote on its website. “Inspired by the iconic DMT trait, this synthetically-grown fur will have all eyes on you as you continue your quest through the metaverse, and you will have all eyes on everyone else, everywhere, seeing everything, all the time. Disclaimer: No apes were harmed in the making of this hoodie.”

Following Adidas’ reveal, BAYC Co-Founder Gordon Goner said that the DMT hoodie reminds him of Elmo being taken over by a demon. “To be clear, this was a high compliment,” Goner said.

At the time of this article’s publication, there is a standing 1 WEth offer on the DMT hoodie, according to Opensea data.

The Bored Ape Gazette is working to bring you more coverage of Adidas’ drop and what the company has planned for its Genesis collection going forward. Stay tuned for updates!
