I know it’s been said many times and many ways today, but an anonymous millionaire just swept the CryptoPunks floor as the Web3 world celebrated what might be the start of a second NFT season.
On Sunday, wallet 0x8be240e8689547f1068a835d14f1d943958095dc purchased 45 CryptoPunks for a total of 2,031.6047 ETH, or roughly $7,568,000 USD, igniting a flurry of activity in the Punks ecosystem, with 64 total sales in just a few hours.

While little is known about Wallet 0x8be240, we do know that they transferred their 45 new Punks to Wallet 0x1bb351c5410b2f6bae36a74aa6b38a9800ae72d6, which also holds 11 Chromie Squiggle NFTs that they swept earlier this afternoon.
After this massive sweep, the Web3 world is alive. Longtime CryptoPunks holder Gino.eth joked that maybe the U.S. Government was buying, while ThreadGuy tweeted that he wants an NFT whale on his show tomorrow.
For many in the Web3 space, Wallet 0x8be240’s moves feel validating and it proves that historically significant onchain art has always been the alpha.
“The window of buying a Cryptopunk sub $250k is getting narrower,” ArtofConviction tweeted. “I don't think you have much time til it's wide shut. For the past few years and especially the last few months, a select few of us have been screaming at the top of our lungs that you are severely under-allocated to historically relevant Digital Art. Every day that goes by where you don't seize that opportunity is a major mistake. Me personally, I'm all-in on the future of Digital Art.”
