The Bored Ape Yacht Club announced the creation of the Bored Ape Kennel Club yesterday and the price for a pup soared.
At the time of this articles publication, the floor price for a BAKC dog is over 1.2 ETH or about 2,760 USD. The price of a BAKC dog is already higher than the price most BAYC members paid for their ape. This kind of price movement on a free gift has left many having to decide whether to sell their four legged friend or hold on to them.
The logical side of me says "Yo, sell the dog when floor is 1.5 because once revealed most will drop,” BAYC member Jonathan Long (@long) tweeted. “But the DEGEN in me says, "YOLO, you might have a golden you can flip for 25 ETH you didlo!”
The BAKC was not on the official BAYC roadmap and came as a surprise to just about every member of the BAYC. Prior to the announcement, many apes expected the surprise to be either another merch drop or breeding. The announcement of a dog for every ape was the surprise that the BAYC community did not know they wanted, but now everyone loves.
This is better than I expected," BAYC member Chris Smith tweeted. “Kudos to the @BoredApeYC team for not resting on their laurels.”
After Yesterday’s announcement, the creators of the BAYC hopped into a Twitter Space to speak with some apes about the BAKC.
The Bored Ape Gazette was unable to attend, but found discord user and BAYC member xBenJamminx's highlights from the talk:

· The BAKC dogs whole body is visible because the dogs are meant to be a companion to your ape.

On top of adding value to BAYC members, the BAKC will also be giving back to animal shelter charities.
“ The BAKC collection will have a 2.5% royalty fee associated with secondary sales on opnesea, The BAYC posted on the BAKC page. “All proceeds we generate from this fee will be donated to charity. We’re looking at several no-kill animal shelters to donate to and intend to donate via The Giving Block. The first donation would be to “Wright-way Rescue. After six weeks, we’ll remove the 2.5% fee from Opensea entirely. Let’s rescue some pooches, apes.”
Each dog is programmatically generated from over 170 possible traits. The dogs, like the apes, will be stored as an ERC-721 token on the ETH blockchain.
At the time of this articles publication, there were 7.6 thousand BAKC dogs minted and 3.1 thousand unique owners, according to Opensea. This means that about 2.4 thousands dogs are yet to be minted and 1.2 thousand BAYC owners have not minted their dog yet.

Dogs will be revealed once the minting period has ended. Any unclaimed dogs will be released into the swamp never to be seen again, according to the BAKC website.
