BREAKING NEWS: Applied Primate Is Shutting Down, According To Its Founder PTM

After three years of storytelling, insane events, and countless puzzles and activations, Applied Primate Labs is being paused indefinitely after failing to determine its product fit, according to its founder, PTM.

It was a somber day in the expanded Yugaverse as Made By Apes business Applied Primate announced it was closing down.

 

“I think trying to be pioneers of this token-driven gaming and community space we made a lot of mistakes and moved too slowly,” PTM wrote in the Applied Primate community Discord. “A lot of our games and activations were too complex and hard to access and it was hard to figure out what exactly our product was. Was it small puzzle activations for a few hundred people? A game for millions? A role-playing community based in the BAYC universe? We maybe tried to do too much at the same time and our product launches, especially our Sentinels avatar launch that struggled to sell out, suffered because of it. In short, we failed. I am proud of the shot we took and, while it didn't end up where I wanted it to, I enjoyed creating for all of you the past few years and learned a ton doing it.”

 

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Applied Primate was trying to build the Marvel Studios to Yuga Labs’ Disney since the early days of the BAYC and focused its storyline around several of the Mega Mutant Apes. Over the years Applied Primate has revealed the Golden Mega Mutant at ApeFest, co-hosted the BAYC’s Fuck It Saturday event in Miami last year,  written a comic book, among other things.

 

After today’s announcement, PTM shared that he had let go of several members of the Applied Primate staff, would be locking up most of the Discord in the coming days, and would explore options to sell or pivot Applied Primate in the new year. If nothing materializes, he will shut it down for good.

PTM also announced that community members could claim up to two mega plushies beginning Monday, December 23rd, at 12 P.M. EST.

 

“Before we say goodbye we have one small final surprise for you all,” PTM wrote. “In addition to the distribution of the four mega plushies (Demon, Zombie, Azul & Robot) at ApeFest, we had a few more set aside we had been planning to make available to the Lab. On Monday at 12pm ET, our community can visit our storefront and claim up to 2 mega plushies. Claimers will be responsible only for shipping & handling. Claim will be open until all the plushies are gone, or Dec 26th at 12pm ET, whichever comes first.”
