Building in public is a vibe, and soon you will be able to ape in on the action!

Mutant Monday was insane around the swamp after Yuga Labs’ Michael Figge announced that the team will begin opening Otherside’s “vibecoding” tools to the public this week.

“We'll be giving out the MML role so more people can place vibecoded objects,” he wrote. “If good, we'll scale til everyone gets access. if it breaks, we'll work through it live. still lots of UX improvements planned but just proving it out first also next otherside update targeting March 5 platform updates and rolling out an mvp agent api.

With this rollout, Otherside moves closer to becoming a player built metaverse,  which was something Figge discussed earlier this year during a Meet at the Clubhouse Space.

“For Otherside our goal remains the same. You should be able to publish and you should be able to create,” he said on Janaury 8th. “Success looks like you don’t need to notify any of us to publish, you should be able to do that on your own. Kind of like how anyone can mint an NFT and it shows up on OpenSea. But to do that, you need a lot of work to make sure its automatic. And I think we are about to see the first signs of that this year. Everybody is building and they don’t need us to do it.”

While we do not know everything about what Yuga Labs is launching this week, the idea of user generated items in the metaverse has been in the works for a while.

Back in the summer of 2023, Improbable developers showcased Metaverse Markup Language (MML), a system designed to allow objects to appear inside virtual worlds using text  rather than code. At the time it was mostly a demonstration, but now Yuga Labs appears ready to test it live with the community!

Today’s announcement also comes two months after Yuga Labs acquired the Unreal Engine based creator platform powering Otherside from Improbable, along with many of the engineers behind it, signaling a push to make the metaverse a reality sooner!

The Gazette is working to find out more about vibe coding on Otherside and will let you know how and when you can get involved. Stay tuned for updates!
