Ape in and ante up!

On Friday, Yuga Labs officially dealt the cards and launched Texas Hold’em on the Otherside  and everyone is invited to play!

“No date this weekend? No problem,” Yuga Labs tweeted from its Otherside account. “Poker is now live in Otherside.”

This new game isn’t just for Apes or NFT collectors. Anyone can visit the metaverse, walk up to one of the poker tables scattered across the swamp and the Koda homeworld of Nexus, and take a seat.

From there, players can either join a play money game or simply spectate and watch their favorite degens battle it out at the tables.

Today’s launch marks the first iteration of what Yuga Labs hopes will become a staple and persistent poker experience inside the Otherside. According to Yuga Labs CEO Garga and Head of Engineering James Hall, the team is starting with play money while they test the system, but future reward structures or $Ape-based gameplay is coming.

“We’re gonna open it up “Let people play with fake money make sure there’s no huge issues,” Hall tweeted late last month. “Then maybe figure some other fun stuff out.”

As the Gazette prevously reported, Poker on Otherside has been in the works for a while and was first introduced to the metaverse back in August 2024 when Captain Trippy won $45,000 USD in a charity game for Made By Apes By Autistic, besting Garga, Gordon Goner, Tomato, Figge, Adam Weitsman, OSF, MachiBigBrother, and PP Man!

The Gazette will continue following all things poker on the Otherside and will keep you posted on who’s cleaning up at the tables and when real $Ape or prizes eventually get pushed into the pot. Stay tuned for updates!
