Apes, have you felt it?

IRL has been the alpha as of late, with community get togethers from New York City to Hong Kong happening almost daily, a massive 4/20 event with Snoop Dogg set for this weekend, and an upcoming Ibiza music festival for Voyagers on the horizon. And with it, the vibes have been rising across the timeline.

This shift wasn’t random.

That was Figge.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Michael Figge stepped in as CEO of Yuga Labs a few weeks ago, ushering in a renewed focus on IRL community meetups and strengthening the club at a local level.

Following the announcement, Figge joined IllaDaProducer and Baron Von Hustle on the Otherside during this week’s Meet At The Clubhouse to share more insight into his vision for the BAYC.

There, he emphasized the importance of building strong local communities and how that translates into longterm strength for the best club on the internet.

“I really do think specifically for BAYC we’ve seen the power of community at a local level worldwide,” he said. “City level meetups and local chapter support are some of the basic things we can improve on.”

He added that he believes a stronger community network IRL will  lead to a more unique holders, as new people ape in for the long haul!

"I really believe a strong community network actually leads to a higher unique floor count,” he said. “I think that’s one of our healthiest metrics because that means there are a lot of people that are ape-ing in to hold long term. I think it’s interesting that people are buying one. And as things get better, as we do stuff, and as we progress, it’s hard to let go of that one.”

Figge went on to say that, as CEO, he plans to continue supporting IRL meetups while also bringing back a sense of wonder around the swamp, giving Apes a reason to keep asking, what’s next?

“I really do feel you’ve seen the BAYC team execute in a different way and I think it’s just  a shift in focus. We’ve got a good start but there’s a lot of work to do ahead of us!”

The Gazette will continue to follow Figge’s leadership and what it means for the future of the swamp. Stay tuned for updates!
