Horizen Labs, The Company Working With The BAYC To Create Ape Token, Revealed They Own An Ape

Last Friday Horizen Labs, the company that the Bored Ape Yacht Club teamed up with to create Ape token, released a press release revealing that they purchased an astronaut Bored Ape back in December 2021.

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Opensea user “ZennyPunk” purchased an astronaut bored ape on December 6th,2021 for 100 Eth. We now know that “ZennyPunk” is Horizen Labs, according to the company’s press release.

“We are excited to reveal that Horizen Labs is the new owner of the Astronaut Bored Ape #6709 purchased for 100ETH, roughly $420,000 USD at the time of purchase,” the company said on Friday. “Shortly after the BAYC team announced our partnership on Twitter, we bought our ape to show our support of the inspiring movement within the NFT space in which the BAYC team and community play a crucial role.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the BAYC announced they would be working with Horizen Labs to drop Ape Coin. “We’re also partnering with the gigabrains over at @HorizenLabs (creators of $ZEN, recently listed on @CoinbasePro), the BAYC previously tweeted on October 8th,2021. “That’s all we can say for now.”

Horizen Labs’ announcement that they own an astronaut bored ape comes at a time when many in the BAYC believe Ape token is right around the corner. The BAYC previously said that they hoped to launch its token in quarter one of 2022.

While Horzien Labs did not release any specifics regarding ape coin, the company’s co-founder and president, Dean Steinbeck, did hint they’re heavily involved in the BAYC ecosystem.

“We are thrilled to be part of the BAYC community and look forward to participating in multiple ways, including bringing new products and services to the ecosystem to make it more diverse and robust,” Steinbeck said.
