Yuga Labs just gave Otherside Voyagers a lay of the land as the company gears up to open the metaverse economy with the launch of its highly anticipated Resource Game!

“Soon, for the first time, Voyagers will be able to land on Otherdeeds,” the company tweeted Thursday. “Not just look at them on a map, but actually explore them, harvest resources, and start putting that land to work.”

In a lengthy 12 part X post, Yuga Labs explained that all 100,000 Otherdeeds will eventually feature unique, explorable environments created using Unreal Engine's Procedural Content Generation (PCG) technology, which will transform each plot's existing traits into a world that Voyagers can actually explore!

“Think of PCG as a set of rules that creates a world for you,” the company tweeted. We feed it your deed's traits (environment, sediment, tier, resources) and it generates the terrain, the layout, and where resources appear. All from the traits your deed already has… And here's where it gets interesting. Even two deeds with the exact same environment, tier, and resources will look different. Different terrain, different layouts, different places to explore and harvest. 100,000 deeds. 100,000 unique worlds. 100,000 1of1s.”

Along with this announcement, Yuga Labs reiterated that Otherside's economy will feature 74 different resources, each represented by its own onchain token. The company also revealed more about how harvesting will work, explaining that resources won't be infinite, will take time to replenish and won't necessarily be safe in a Voyager's hands!

“Everything you harvest starts out unsecured,” the company tweeted. “That means you can lose it on the way home, or someone else might take it. Once secured, it's yours to craft with or sell. For now, crafting benches secure resources, but there’s more to come.”

As the Gazette previously reported, Yuga Labs' Otherside Resource Game isn't just a standalone experience that will run for a couple of weeks. Instead, it's intended to serve as the backbone of everything the company hopes to build across the metaverse going forward.

“What we are doing right now is fine tuning what the loop of the game is and what this experience is” Yuga Labs Otherside Lead James Hall said during a Space in September. “One of the biggest things in my mind when people talk about or say ‘Oh Otherisde’s a Resource Game,’ that’s just the backbone. That would be like saying our world is just fossil fuels game… this is just how we can get the world going and how we can build things that make this world possible.”

Tonight, we still don't know exactly how these resources will fit into Otherside's overarching lore or when Voyagers will be able to begin exploring and harvesting across the metaverse.

But we do know that the first iteration of the Resource Game will feature 600 Yuga Labs owned Otherdeeds that the community can explore, that players will use Starpods to descend to these plots and that the company plans to introduce everyone to the concept of Outposts soon!

“The adventure for Voyagers is becoming clear,” Yuga Labs tweeted. “Explore the map, harvest resources on deeds, and bring them back safely. Secure your resources, craft items, or trade for APE. But every Voyager needs an Outpost to call home, and that's what we'll cover next time…”

The Gazette will continue to follow all things Otherside and let you know when Voyagers can begin collecting resources and exploring the world. Stay tuned for updates!
