MEET THE CANDIDATE: Amplify Is Running For Governance Working Group Steward
The ApeCoin DAO’s first Governance Working Group Steward, Amplify, is running for reelection this winter with the goals of establishing an alternative on-chain AIP process and collaborating with an asset management firm to use the DAO’s treasury to turn a profit in the world of DeFi!
The winter election season of 2023 is underway at the ApeCoin DAO, with seven $Apes officially running to be the DAO’s next Governance Working Group Steward. Among the candidates vying for this position is the DAO’s first Governance Working Group Steward, Amplify.
“My motivation for wanting to remain a Governance Steward stems from the DAO’s founding principals of Collective Responsibility,” he wrote on his candidate page. “I have been highly active in the ApeCoin ecosystem since it’s inception, with the primary goal of operationalizing the DAO. I have been a very active long time contributor to the ApeCoin DAO since its inception, becoming the third member to reach “Regular” status on these Discourse Forums. I have been active and helpful on Discourse since the beginning of the DAO with 485 days visited and over 15,800 posts read on the forums: Profile - Amplify - ApeCoin DAO I think we’ve successfully built out an Organization, but we have yet to Decentralize or become Autonomous. There’s still a lot of work to do in that respect. While we’ve successfully improved the AIP processing times, the fact remains that the AIP process is cumbersome, with too many layers of review to ensure a vibrant and evolving ecosystem.”
To find out more about Amplify’s reelection campaign, what he hopes to accomplish during his second term, and where he’d like to see this working group a year from now, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to him for an interview. Check it out below:
1. In a sentence or two why are you running for this position?
“To finish operationalizing the DAO and leaving it better than I found it, with a team empowered to perform work on behalf of the token holders.”
2. How would you describe the role of a Governance Working Group Steward? What does this role entail?
“The Governance WG Stewards ensure smooth operations at our DAO. This includes facilitating the AIP process, elections, and taking ownership of a budget into our multisig.”
3. Why are you the right person for the job? How has your past experiences prepared you for this?
“I have a lot of experience in DAOs and web3 in general. I know what motivates people, and how to work well in a distributed team.”
4. What ideas or initiatives would you like to enact if elected?
“I have two very clear things I'd like to accomplish. First, I want to provide an alternative AIP process fully on chain. Second, I want to empower a professional asset management firm to deploy some of our Treasury across DeFi to earn a revenue for our DAO and sustain our burn rate. This is already in progress with our Economic Sustainability Study underway, to be presented to the DAO in February 2024.”
5. If you could unilaterally change one thing at the DAO today what would you change or do?
“I would move half of the treasury on chain. This would serve to reduce admin fees and third party custody risk while also reducing overhead on the forums because we would need less overall human review for grants to be voted on.”
6. Where would you like to see the Governance Working Group a year from now?
“I would like to see it improving upon and governing a protocol, or a suite of smart contracts on chain vs. just a simple treasury.”
7. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?
“I just wanted to say I'm very thankful for all the coverage you've been providing and will continue to provide!”
