Four years ago, Otherside made history with the biggest NFT mint crypto has ever seen. Last year, the metaverse became an always on world. And this year, Yuga Labs is aiming to transform Otherside into a place where Voyagers can finally explore their Otherdeeds and open up a digital economy under the leadership of Yuga Labs Head Engineer James Hall.

On Monday, Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge took to the timeline and announced that Yuga Labs Head Engineer James Hall would be taking the reins of Otherside.

“A year ago we opened @othersidemeta for the first time persistently today, i'm putting @imjameshall in charge of it,” he tweeted. “Before i became ceo, i was working deeply on otherside. i aped a lotta otherdeeds before joining yuga. literally bought into the vision.  and the past year was a turnaround job, getting the platform right-side up. it was an accomplishment just to visit OS whenever you wanted with whatever avatar you wanted now otherside has some of the most bottled up potential in the space”

For those unfamiliar with Hall, he joined both the BAYC and Yuga Labs three years ago. While he initially worked behind the scenes, ApeChain's launch turned him into a staple around the swamp as he launched Gobs and Mintotaurs and shared updates on everything happening across the Yugaverse.

Following Figge's announcement, Hall published a lengthy article reflecting on the past year building on ApeChain and Otherside from the perspective of both Yuga Labs' lead engineer and a founder.

Looking ahead, he said he hopes to make Otherside a place where everyone wins.

“My goal is simple: successfully kick off the Otherside resource game and get people on their Otherdeeds,” he wrote. “This is something we've been working on for a long time, mixing disciplines of 3D design, game development, and hard core smart contract systems. We're balancing ways to maximize the experience for Otherdeed and Koda holders while still being able to draw in a much bigger user base that might not own an Otherdeed or Koda yet.”

Under Hall’s new leadership, Apes, Voyagers, and crypto enthusiasts can expect to see a renewed focus on building in public with more concept art, regular updates on what’s being built, and more direct conversations with holders!

The Gazette will continue to follow Hall as he leads Otherside into its second year as an always on metaverse and will let you know when new information about Otherdeeds, the Resource Game, and the future of Otherside becomes available. Stay tuned for updates!
