The crypto and NFT space has seen its share of wild moments over the years, from nearly every celebrity switching their profile photo to a Bored Ape in 2021 and 2022, to then President elect Donald Trump launching his own memecoin the weekend before his inauguration. But when it comes to crypto adoption, nothing may be more wild and impactful than Amazon selling its own Otherside Voyager robot, Boximus, made from the brand’s iconic boxes right on its platform today!

Thursday was anything but boring around the swamp as the world’s biggest online retailer aped into the digital collectible space, launching, selling out, and shipping its first metaverse collectible, Boximus, on Otherside. And this is just the beginning!
The 2,222-piece collection sold out quickly, considering Amazon’s internal anti-bot and theft protections slowing down many buyers!
"'Nobody is going to want to buy an Otherside x Amazon NFT' Reality: demand was so high that all of Amazon’s fraud/bot protection measures kicked in,” Yuga Labs CEO Garga tweeted seemingly mocking Crypto Twitter’s Key Opionion Leaders who laughed at this collab earlier this week. “Amazon made me go back and set a new password after buying just 1. They are on this 100% with their tech+fraud teams, Amazon are (king emoji) partners. THANK YOU FOR BEARING WITH US We like the box.”
What’s truly insane about Amazon’s Boximus mint is that it didn’t happen in a crypto native space like Magic Eden or OpenSea. Instead, the Web2 giant invited crypto users and its own customer base to purchase Boximus in its digital store using credit cards; making the process as easy as any other Amazon purchase. No crypto wallets. No random platforms. Just Amazon, fiat, and the Otherside metaverse that lets anyone to ape in with a Gmail, Apple ID, or X account. Simple!
If someone told me 3 years ago that @OthersideMeta would have an avatar for sale on @amazon , I wouldn’t have believed them,” BAYC member Allo tweeted. “ Now it’s reality, the first drop just sold out.”
