Q&A: This AIP Aims To Make A Great NFT Fantasy Novel Based On The Web3 Space. Find Out More

The Apecoin DAO is voting on a mythical Ape Improvement Proposal this week that aims fund the creation of an epic Web3 fantasy novel!

AIP-236 titled” Fantasy Novel About NFTs,” is an ecosystem allocation fund proposal written by ApeCoin DAO contributor Sasha.

“This is a full-length fantasy novel to read on your way to ApeFest or while monitoring $APE price on a rainy afternoon,” Sasha wrote. “Follow the adventures of Izza, an outsider who wakes up with amnesia in a strange world of talking animals. As she tries to find out who she is, she meets familiar characters (Jenkins, Andrew, SpottieWIFI, and the traveling Sealsman, among others), gets embroiled in world politics full of magic, right-click savers, and inter-collection intrigue, and has to decide between going home or defending this strange land from a full-scale invasion by [redacted].”

At the time of this AIP’s publication, Sasha has already written nearly two hundred pages of this NFT epic! You can check it out here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DdvTdTf726RylkWhBCld097HCJZN7thypI_MF62vW_c/edit

In total, Sasha is asking the ApeCoin DAO to allocate $28,150 USD to them so they can finish this book and make it a free to read e-book for everyone in the Web3 space.

To find out more about AIP-236 and the novel, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to Sasha for an interview. Check it out below:

Tell me a bit about you and how you got involved at the ApeCoin DAO?

“ I've been an ape since Aug '21, in nfts before then. Minted 10 cool cats, had full Gutter set, joined dozens of other communities. So I had ApeCoin from launch, the DAO was pretty lame back then; I got re-involved about a month ago and have been contributing almost daily since. I've been full-time writing the book since Nov. “

In a sentence or two can you sum up your AIP?

“What if Lord of the Rings had familiar characters and apes and cats instead of elves and orcs?”

Why should the DAO fund the creation of a fantasy novel?

“The DAO is for funding events & entertainment, among other things. The book is entertainment. Like Otherside, it's for everyone - the main hero travels across many lands and meets apes, cats, punks, etc. It's even family-friendly, and my measurement of success is if someone reads the book with their kid(s). I'll cry, almost crying just thinking about it. I think fantasy or sci-fi books can ignite imagination and passion like nothing else, and surely that's part of DAO's mission? Of course, ApeCoin is the currency used in the fantasy universe I'm creating (after the Golden Council -an inside reference to a sub-group within Forgotten Runes Wizard's Cult- corrupted and built alchemy labs to create infinite gold, a brave explorer Apetoshi Punkamoto set out to find magic-immune-and-rare metal... the rest is history). Oh, and there are dragons. This one baby dragon Jenkins saved from poachers is a particularly fun character imho.”

I saw that you already have almost 200 pages written. Could you share a teaser of the story? What’s happening in the book? Can you set the scene?

“The book is a full fantasy, so there's only rudimentary technology and magic (no cell phones, no blockchain). The characters do live forever, but they have no idea why (they don't know they're NFTs). The main thing is that I'm writing a story people outside of NFTs can enjoy. It's a hard line to walk, but it's so fun. I can replace Jenkins with any other name and not have to change a single word in the story. BUT for those of us who do know Jenkins, suddenly many references have double meaning, make more sense, and some become inside jokes. In the attached screenshot, the dialogue will make perfect sense to anyone reading who doesn't know DrifterShoots. In the story, there's no reference to his fight with the government b/c the Drifter in the book is a character, not real Drifter. BUT to those of us who know Isaac, it's obvious "injustice" refers to his lawsuit with govt here, IRL. So this book is normal fantasy for outside readers and should stand on its own as such, but for us degens the book is full of secrets and double meanings that I hope will make it that much better. I think this book is the first of its kind this way and I'm biased, but I think it's so awesome.”

5. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?

I've degen'ed, made money, and then lost all of it. But in the process, I made friends, grew as a person, had the time of my life. I love the crap out of this community, and I want to create a product (hopefully, a multi-book saga) that will set the bar for future books and satisfy the kid in all of us (and our real kids, if you have them). Maybe one day an RPG can come of it, but first we must set the stage, write the stories. The story of Izza is a metaphor for the story of each of us as we found ourselves in this new world of NFTs, without a guide, with our previous knowledge basically useless. It's an art grant (part goes to illustrators) and if just 1,000 people read it, that's $2.8 per person for a 300+ page fantasy novel. 3,000 people - less than a dollar/each. It's a good value for being lost on a rainy Sunday afternoon in a world that's both new and exciting, and yet familiar and relatable. Anyone can DM me with any questions!”

The window to vote on AIP-236 is currently open and $Ape holders have until tomrrow night to cast their coins.
