The swamp mourned today as world renowned conservationist and friend to Apes and chimpanzees, Jane Goodall, passed away at the age of 91.

On Wednesday, the Bored Ape Yacht Club, Yuga Labs, and ApeCoin paid their respects to Jane Goodall after the news broke, congratulating her on a lifetime of achievements in primate conservation.

“Jane Goodall was a towering figure in conservation, science, and human empathy. Her lifelong dedication to primate conservation, environmental stewardship, and education changed the world. When @apecoinlaunched, part of its token allocation included a donation to the Jane Goodall Legacy Foundation to support her foundation's mission to help all Apes. Her legacy will continue to inspire for years to come.”
After beginning her studies of chimpanzees in 1960, Goodall and her institute went on to protect millions of acres of native ecosystems around the globe while saving over 5,000 chimpanzees and gorillas.
In 2022, with the launch of ApeCoin, 1% of $Ape was donated to Goodall’s foundation, and Yuga Labs contributed an additional 6.25% of its $Ape allocation to support her mission.
“The donation will help secure an invested endowment for the JGLF, helping to fund projects including: Long-term research at the Gombe Stream Research Center in Western Tanzania (which been conducted continuously for more than six decades),” ApeCoin wrote at the time. “Lake Tanganyika Catchment Reforestation and Education (TACARE), community-centered conservation that preserves chimp habitats in six African countries Conservation science that explores, innovates, and discovers new solutions, technologies and tools to protect the environment and wildlife Roots & Shoots, a program active in 60+ countries that empowers young people (kindergarten through university) to become involved in hands-on projects for people, animals, and the environment”
