THE LONG GAME: Milbury Trades His BAYC Bronze Curtis Trophy For A Mutant Ape After 548 Days!

From grinding the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Apes vs. Mutants mobile game to finally becoming a member of the best club on the internet, this gamer just went from bronze to bored.

Back in January 2022, Apes and Mutants alike were glued to their phones playing the Club’s Apes vs. Mutants mobile game. Community members were sleeping in four hour increments, skipping work, and doing whatever it took for a shot at prizes ranging from trash scented candles and Curtis plushies to a BAYC themed pinball machine and even the Mutant Mobile, a 2002 Honda Accord.

If you didn’t experience it, the competition was brutal. It took such a toll on top players that the community actually voted to end the event early. You really had to be there to understand just how insane it was.

One of those players was a gamer named Milbury, who was part of the now defunct ApeDAO by Kylo at the time, and was delegated the chance to compete.

“I grinded for days, much to the chagrin of my wife. Set alarms and slept in internal to optimize my lives I could play in a 24 hour span. Took time off my irl job to do so as well. I was playing so much my thumbnail started to separate from my finger from dragging it on the screen with such pressure. “

Milbury pushed his way into the top 50 on the Ape side of the game and walked away with a bronze Curtis statue, a bong, a plushie, and a trippy hat.

While Apes vs. Mutants eventually wrapped, Milbury’s next game was just beginning.

For the next 548 days, he set out to trade that bronze statue for a Mutant Ape.

"probably asked 100s of people, 80% said no way, 18% didn’t reply, and I’d say 2% said “I think you’ll get it, but I can’t do that trade,” he said. “For a long time, I did take a break from the space entirely. Just burned out. Needed a break. It was hard to keep cold-posting people.”

But then, it finally happened.

Earlier this week, ApeCo CEO Cameron Kates saw Milbury’s persistence and stepped in to make the deal happen, trading Mutant Ape #6274 for the bronze statue and helping Milbury officially join the swamp.

“Welcome to the Club,” Kates said. “Pumped to have you.”

After the trade, Milbury PFP'd his new Mutant told the Gazette that dreams really do come true.

“Feels great,” he said. “I remember the night mutants minted, I saw a tweet about it, but didn’t have the liquidity to mint one. I told my friend and he was fortunate enough to mint one. I’ve always wished I had a chance to get one. So it’s really a dream come true to see that become a reality.”

The Gazette will continue to follow new members’ journeys to the swamp and keep you posted on what Milbury does next. Stay tuned for updates!
