This AIP Could Establish The ApeCoin DAO's Election Process Going Forward. Find Out More:
The ApeCoin DAO is voting on a pair of Ape Improvement Proposals this week that could establish the DAO’s election process going forward.
AIP-138 titled “The Special Council Election Process” is a process proposal written by ApeCoin DAO administration team member, BTang.
In AIP 138, BTang proposes the creation of two election cycles, term limits for Special Council members, and the creation of a voting and nomination process.
“To advance the ApeCoin DAO’s path to decentralization, an election process that enables qualified community members to serve in the DAO’s leadership is required,” BTang wrote. “This AIP covers the most essential pieces of that process. It aims to build critical infrastructure from which the DAO can grow.”
The first step in creating the “critical infrastructure” for the DAO’s election process going forward is numbering the current Special Council seats from 1 to 5, BTang wrote.
Once these seats are numbered, BTang suggests that the DAO should create an election cadence where either two or three of these seats are on the ballot every six months.
“Succession planning is paramount,” BTang wrote. “A twice-yearly staggered process helps to maintain continuity for longer-term objectives and avoids a cataclysmic change wherein every Special Council seat is up for re-election at once. This should be balanced against the risk of low participation-rates from excessively frequent elections.”
In AIP-138, BTang proposes that the first election dubbed “Cycle One” take place in January. During this first cycle, Special Council seats 1 to 3 will be up for grabs. BTang then proposes that the second election dubbed “Cycle Two” take place in July. During Cycle Two, Special Council seats 4& 5 will be voted on.
As the bored Ape Gazette previosuly reported, BTang explained the nomination process for these election cycles in their AIP-137 proposal. There, BTang laid out a three-phase nomination process that, if passed, would begin next week on November 3rd.
