“THIS IS US DOUBLING DOWN”: Yuga Labs Brings Otherside In House, Acquiring Tech And Team From Improbable

Yuga Labs will be breaking on through to the Otherside faster than ever after the company acquired the Unreal Engine based creator platform that powers the metaverse, bringing the tech fully in house around the swamp.

2026 is shaping up to be anything but boring across the swamp, the Nexus, and the 100,000 Otherdeeds that make up the $Ape powered metaverse after Yuga Labs CEO Garga announced that the company has acquired the technology and team that have been working on Otherside for years from Improbable.

 

“This is us doubling down on a simple goal: to build the best creator platform in crypto,” Garga said. “A place where anyone can build worlds, games, and experiences that are massively multiplayer, composable, and shippable at the click of a button. All on open rails, with real ownership and real economies.”

 

 

With this move, Apes and Voyagers can expect to see even more from the metaverse than ever before, according to Yuga Labs’ Michael Figge.

“Technology and Content under one roof,” he said. “Vertically integrating the key components of Otherside lets us move faster, experiment more, and build Otherside as a world that keeps evolving week after week, year after year.”

 

 

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Improbable has been working on Otherside since the very beginning and was officially brought back into the fold when Garga stepped back in as CEO in early 2024.

 

Since then, Yuga Labs has launched the first iteration of an always on Otherside, opened the Koda homeworld of Nexus, invited countless communities to bring their avatars into the world, partnered with Amazon, and begun experimenting with wearables and sellable in world items like its new Emotes that are coming to Amazon soon.
