"1 APE = 1 APE": Yuga Labs' Garga And Gordon Goner Explain Why They Each Only Own One Bored Ape!

While much has changed around the Bored Ape Yacht Club since the April 2021 mint, one thing has remained constant: 1 ape = 1 ape.


On Sunday, BAYC member FutureForbesX took to Twitter and asked Yuga Labs Co-Founders Gordon Goner and Garga why they each only hold one Ape. The question garnered a response from Garga about the importance of community and a reminder of the club's ethos: 1 ape = 1 ape.

 

“1 ape means you are part of the club,” Garga wrote. “1 ape = 1 ape. No special treatment for whales. Previous NFT projects had founders own huge amounts of the supply which felt weird to us. We didn’t even choose our apes - we revealed them like everybody else at the time.

 

Following this reply, BAYC members flooded the timeline with copypasta, echoing the mantra 1 ape = 1 ape, accompanied by collages of Ape posts.




 

The next day, Gordon Goner chimed in, reiterating Garga’s points and expressing his pride in the club’s founding principles that all Apes are equal.

 

“1 = 1 ape. Still feel strongly about this,” he tweeted. “I remember when other collections would offer special perks for owners of certain traits or special privileges for whales etc, and I thought it was sometimes cool, but it just never sat right with me for the Bored Ape Yacht Club. The point was to create something egalitarian. Took some heat at different points for this, but I'm glad we stuck to it.”
