To burn or not to burn, that is the question.

A month after Chairman of Doodles and former Sotheby's CEO Tad Smith took over Candy Digital and announced plans to move the platform to Solana this May, he revealed a new NFT burn option where eligible collectibles can be exchanged for 50 cents each!

“Tomorrow, Candy will open the burn window for eligible digital collectibles,” Smith wrote in an X article to Fans. “This is an important step as we continue preparing Candy for its next chapter, and we want to make sure every fan understands what is changing, what action is available, and how we are protecting accounts during this process.”

The burn window will remain open from tomorrow through May 20, when the first wave of Candy Digital assets officially migrates to Solana. Fans should note that anything burned during this process will be gone forever.

As the Gazette prevously reported, Candy Digital has a notable history in Web3. The NFT platform was launched in 2021, backed by Michael Rubin, Mike Novogratz, and Gary Vaynerchuk.

Over the years, the platform secured partnerships with Major League Baseball, DC Comics, Netflix, and more, aiming to bring digital collectibles from big brands to super fans.

At its peak, the platform reached around 1.5 million users, but the NFT bear market over the past few years led to ownership changes and the platform was put into maintenance mode sometime last year, and looked to be finished, until now.

Looking ahead, Candy Digital assets will live on Solana and become tradable on the Metaplex marketplace, where royalties will be enforced.

To make sure you’re ready for everything happening with Candy, or to burn your NFTs tomorrow,  fans should log into their Candy account tonight to make sure they qualify as an active user, which will automatically migrate all  their NFTs to Solana for free.

For more information on this migration or being an active Candy fan, check out the platform’s post below:

The Gazette will continue to follow all things Candy and will keep you posted as Tad and the team continue to build. Stay tuned for updates!
