From east to west, Apes together strong!

On Wednesday, Bored Ape Yacht Club members Hype, VeraTheApe, and Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge brought the English and Mandarin speaking Ape communities together on Spaces for a first of its kind dual language chat that was anything but boring!

From giving constructive feedback on Otherside to sharing their unique experiences around the swamp, over the course of the two and a half hour Space, Mandarin speaking members were able to come up, ask questions, and voice their opinions in their native language directly to Figge and the team with the help of VeraTheApe, who has been working alongside Yuga Labs this year to help make the best club on the internet even better.

“Seeing everyone show up this morning was incredible,” VeraTheApe told the Gazette. “We’re finally closing those communication gaps that were there before. These cross-cultural spaces are so important because they turn BAYC from just a digital collection into a global homebase and a real family. We’re listening to the feedback: whether it’s using AI to fix language barriers in Otherside or adjusting our event times so people don't have to stay up until midnight. At the end of the day, yuga’s strength isn't about the floor price; it's about the number of holders and the long-term connections. we’re building that will last for the next 10 or 20 years.”

As the Gazette previously reported, Yuga Labs has been making moves in recent weeks to activate Apes across China and South Korea as part of a broader Asian push that has included joining China's versions of TikTok and Instagram, RedNote and Douyin, getting on South Korea’s popular messaging platform Kakao, and changing the club’s weekly Meet at the Clubhouse Space from 6 P.M. EST to 9 A.M. EST on Thursdays to better accommodate members everywhere, not just American based Apes.

For Figge, the goal going forward is simple: make the Bored Ape Yacht Club a community that people across the globe want to be a part of.

“The strength of the club is unique holder count, which has been growing,” Figge said on Spaces. “I want us to have growth in our Korean Channels, in our Chinese Channels. That’s one of the main things that is important by going out there. Making sure that our channels out there have activity and that people are excited to be a part of the club. So that when people who aren’t here yet come into the Bored Ape Yacht Club, they come into a place that’s really exciting with lots of new members who they can meet and hopefully be lifelong friends for you. I think if we focus on that it makes club membership more desirable. I think we can connect on the human side of things and have outsized impact!”

Looking ahead, Figge is slated to head east to Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul later this month to meet with community members, partners, and more to discuss all things BAYC, Otherside, and $Ape.

The Gazette will continue to follow all things Asia and will let you know what Yuga Labs does next in the region. Stay tuned for updates!
