Sunny South Florida was cold as ice on Friday as the National Hockey League and Pudgy Penguins brought chill vibes to Miami for the southernmost outdoor hockey game ever played.

On Friday, the NHL’s Winter Classic headed down south as the Florida Panthers took on the New York Rangers at loanDepot Park in 63-degree weather, made possible thanks to industrial grade chillers, a portable ice rink, and a whole lot of science keeping the ice from melting.

But before the more than 36,000 fans packed into the stadium, major brands, including Pudgy Penguins, were set up outside, bringing cool vibes to the unique pre-game experience.

“The @NHL Winter Classic is underway and I can see people are already lining up outside the @pudgypenguinsbooth at the Pre-game fan festival,” Pudgy Penguin STMcFly tweeted. “You can play the claw machine for prizes, take a pic with PENGU, and shop for other Pudgy Penguins gear! People love the Penguins.”

According to the Pudgy Penguins team, their booth had lines 30–50 people deep throughout the six hour event, with Rangers and Panthers fans alike stopping by to meet the brand’s mascot, Pax.

“All smiles with Pengu at the NHL Winter Classic ,” Community Lead Berko said.

The NHL Winter Classic marks the latest activation from the Pudgy Penguins team in partnership with the league.

Back in early December, the project first announced its collaboration with professional hockey and has since hosted an NHL Art Week Miami event, released a line of Pengu jerseys, and now brought its signature energy to one of the NHL’s biggest annual showcases.

While the game itself was a blowout win for the Rangers, who skated away with a 5–1 victory, the real winner from a Web3 perspective was Pudgy Penguins, who are continuing to meet people where they already are!

“Onboarding the masses in the right way,” Abstract streamer Rain wrote.

The Gazette will continue to follow these flightless birds and will let you know what they do next. Stay tuned for updates!
