FLIPPING THE SCRIPT: Yuga Labs Is Launching Its Own BAYC Bot That Benefits The Club Instead Of Snipers!

Whether you’ve been in the Bored Ape Yacht Club since mint or just arrived in the swamp today, everyone has seen it happen: a rare or aesthetic Ape gets sold to a bot for a low price, only to get flipped to a true collector moments later. But that could soon change.

On Wednesday, BAYC member Del Broko highlighted how a spacesuit wearing Ape was WETH’d into a bot before being flipped to a collector, resulting in nearly $7,800 USD in profit for the bot instead of an actual collector getting a deal or the BAYC ecosystem benefiting from the sale.

“When will projects start protecting their collectors,” Del Broko wrote. “Would love to see a bot run by @GrailsOTC.”

Then, Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge answered that call and announced that he and the team are preparing to do exactly that.

“We will build and ship this by next week,” he said. “Bored Ape Yacht Club.”

Following his tweet last night, Figge stopped by today’s Meet at the Clubhouse space to further explain Yuga Labs’ plans to place bids on highly sought after traits as part of GrailsOTC’s efforts to broker deals between collectors old and new.

"We got a suggestion that we needed a trading bot that benefits the club, and I think that’s a really great idea,” Figge said. “The idea there is that there are certain things, on a trait basis,  that should not go straight to the floor. There should be people ready with a commensurate bid…. There’s a lot of people always talking to GrailsOTC about specific traits or combinations. So if we already know there is a buyer, then we feel more comfortable putting in offers the same way a bot would. And if there is a spread or margin to be made, then that’s just stuff we can put back into the ecosystem!”

Tonight, it remains unclear exactly when this new bidding bot will launch next week or precisely how it will function. However, we do know that Yuga Labs’ VP of Blockchain, 0xQuit, is already working on it and that any revenue generated from the system could act as a kind of royalty replacement for the BAYC, ensuring the club can continue showing up each and every day.

The Gazette will continue to follow this new Bored bot and will let you know when it officially launches. Stay tuned for updates!
