2026 hasn’t exactly been kind to crypto. Bitcoin is under $80K, NFTs are down bad, and AI is forcing everyone to rethink the future. But amid the chaos, a group of handmade, yellow headed characters called the Del Mundos have cut through the gloom, spread “people powered positivity,” and reminded the timeline why it fell in love with NFTs in the first place: the art.

Less than two weeks after the Del Mundos’ free mint, the project took to the timeline to give the community a closer look at how they brought 10,000 dudes from “Shed to Chain.”
“How We Built The Del Mundos: Handmade Magic… From Shed to Chain, the project tweeted. “We thought we’d put together this thread to explain the process we went through in the production of The Del Mundos collection. Having been a long time in the making there were many micro aspects of development for each stage, but for the purposes of this thread we’re treating it as an overview - just to give you an idea of the steps it took to bring The Del Mundos to life.”
While some of this was known before, the thread was filled with fresh tidbits of Del Mundos lore. From the creation of Ray Del Mundo out of clay, plasticine, and papier-mâché, to the development of a silicone model, and even a “bible of fashion and cultural references” that inspired each of the 178 traits and styles in the collection.
“We always saw this as a fashion collection and approached it as such,” they wrote. “Using street style, avant garde fashion and the style of artists and musicians we admire as our jump off point. From there it was about giving our artist, Rufus Del Mundo, artistic freedom to let him create… and boy, he didn’t disappoint.”
The Del Mundos don’t just look good, they also do good. Every single trait is made from upcycled and recycled materials, and if you look closely, you just might spot a piece of trash transformed into treasure.
The attention to detail didn’t stop with the art. The team also wrote custom backstories for every Del Mundo using their own large language model, dubbed Ray-I.
