FROM THE DESK TO THE DECK: Global Investment Management Firm VanEck Just Launched Its Own Trading Card Game, And Everyone Can Pre-Order It Now!

From the trading desks of the New York Stock Exchange to a deck of trading cards, the stock market can sometimes feel a lot like a game. And now, one of the world’s largest investment management firms has turned that idea into a reality!

On Friday, VanEck, a global investment management firm with more than $199 billion in assets under management, officially opened pre-orders for its finance inspired trading card game, Market Forces TCG, inviting collectors, traders, and card game fans to pick up a pack.

"We’ve been overwhelmed by the support since pre-orders opened” VanEck Head of Web3 Matt Bartlett told the Gazette. “Market Forces has been a passion project built around the idea that learning about financial markets can be strategic, competitive, and genuinely fun. Whether you’re a longtime TCG player, a collector, or simply curious about investing, we believe the game offers something completely different, and this first release is just the beginning.”

As the Gazette previously reported, Market Forces TCG is inspired by the mechanics of Magic: The Gathering and is based on everything from the soaring highs of an initial public offering to the crushing lows of a black swan event. The game also features artwork from Pixel Vault and Marvel artist Chris Wahl.

“Financial literacy content exists everywhere. Courses, YouTube channels, Twitter threads, newsletters. Most of it is good. Almost none of it is fun,” Bartlett wrote in an  X article last month. “And fun matters. Fun is how things actually spread. I started thinking about a game, borrowing mechanics from Magic: The Gathering, taking inspiration from what Vibes TCG had done with IP and community, but building something grounded in how markets actually work. A game where the decisions you make mirror real investing decisions. Where you feel the sting of a Black Swan event. Where you learn, viscerally, why diversification matters. Not because someone told you, but because you lost a round for ignoring it. That's the moment I kept coming back to. You don't forget a lesson you felt in your gut. I brought the concept to VanEck. They said yes.”

A total of 1,500 limited edition Market Forces TCG: First Surge box sets are now available for anyone in crypto and beyond to pre-order. For more information, visit the project’s website here: https://www.marketforces.gg/pre-order

Tonight, Bartlett also encouraged prospective players to try the free desktop version of the game.

“I would also encourage people to play the free desktop version at play.marketforces.gg,” Bartlett said. “Just feel that once people realize the gameplay is actually good, there might be more interest.”

The Gazette will continue to follow all things Market Forces and will let you know what VanEck does next across crypto, finance, and trading cards. Stay tuned for updates!
