FROM TRADING DESKS TO TRADING CARDS: VanEck's Head Of Web3 Matt Bartlett Announces Market Forces TCG!

As trading card games from Pokémon to Vibes continue to take over the market, it's only fitting that a trading company would launch one of its own!

Earlier this week, VanEck, a global investment management firm with $199 billion in assets under management, announced that it is preparing to launch its own finance inspired trading card game dubbed Market Forces TCG.

From the high highs of an initial public offering to the low lows of a black swan event, the TradFi world lends itself surprisingly well to a trading card game. And according to VanEck's Head of Web3, Matt Bartlett, Market Forces could also teach players a thing or two about investing and the markets.

“Financial literacy content exists everywhere. Courses, YouTube channels, Twitter threads, newsletters. Most of it is good. Almost none of it is fun,” he wrote in a recent X article. “And fun matters. Fun is how things actually spread. I started thinking about a game, borrowing mechanics from Magic: The Gathering, taking inspiration from what Vibes TCG had done with IP and community, but building something grounded in how markets actually work. A game where the decisions you make mirror real investing decisions. Where you feel the sting of a Black Swan event. Where you learn, viscerally, why diversification matters. Not because someone told you, but because you lost a round for ignoring it. That's the moment I kept coming back to. You don't forget a lesson you felt in your gut. I brought the concept to VanEck. They said yes.”

Tonight, the first iteration of Market Forces is online and available to play here: https://play.marketforces.gg

Looking ahead, Bartlett and VanEck plan to release the first physical edition of Market Forces soon. The game's release will consist of just 8,000 packs with cards featuring art by Web’s own Chris Wahl, with preorders scheduled to begin this July.

To get in on the action and potentially secure a pack, be sure to join the game's waitlist here:https://www.marketforces.gg
