Ground control to Major Geez!
Between Artemis II and Otherside’s recent moon mission, space has been the talk of the Web3 world. But one Geez beat everyone to it, actually going to space last year, and now he’s minting the proof on ApeChain!
Last summer, longtime Bored Ape Yacht Club member and GeezOnApe holder Dr. DaveCoin sent his astronaut suited GeezOnApe primate, Ron, to space through a company called CrunchLabs as part of their “Space Selfie Project.”
Ron’s mission was simple, go where no Geez has gone before, put Geez on top, and bring back the photo to prove it. A few months later, mission accomplished.
“It feels amazing to get Ron into space,” Dr DaveCoin told the Gazette at the time. “My gold gee, orange background space cowboy! But more than that I’m proud to have achieved this first for ApeChain, to put it on the intergalactic map and as importantly, to have done this for Rida and the team and showcased them (Geez on Ape) as the first collection to have reached space for ApeChain and the first NFT ever to have been captured actually in the vacuum of space orbiting the earth! It felt like the perfect fit.”
Now, with Ron back on Earth and everyone talking space travel,Dave decided now was as good a time as any to bring the iconic photo to ApeChain.
“Minting the photo of my Geez In Space on ApeChain was loooooong overdue,” he said. “It took 4 months from mission start to finish to receive the photo back from Space last year. Space takes time! I just hadn’t gotten around to minting it on ApeChain. But the NASA Artemis II launch seemed like the right moment to finally get it done and make some blockchain history!”
