HAPPY ANNIVERSARY: Yuga Labs Acquired CryptoPunks And Meebits From Larva Labs One Year Ago Today

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Yuga Labs acquiring CryptoPunks and Meebits from Larva Labs.

2022 was anything but boring around the swamp; but one of the most memorable moments from last year was Yuga Labs’ acquisition of the OG NFT collection, CryptoPunks.

“Today we’re excited to announce that Yuga has acquired the IP of the CryptoPunks and Meebits NFT collections from Larva Labs,” Yuga Labs wrote in a press release on March 11th,2022. “This means that we now own the brands, copyright in the art, and other IP rights for both collections, along with 423 CryptoPunks and 1711 Meebits.”

Since last year’s acquisition, Yuga Labs has updated each of the projects IP rights agreements, gave holders the ability to what they want with their assets, started the Punks Legacy program, launched the Meebits MB1 Roadmap, among other things!

Immediately after last year’s acquisition, Yuga Labs stated that its goal in acquiring these projects from Larva Labs was to encourage more creativity and “grow the pie.”

“It’s been amazing to watch the BAYC ecosystem use their rights to collaborate and build awesome shit we never could have dreamed up,” Yuga Labs tweeted immediately after the acquisition on March 11th, 2022. “We can’t wait to see the Cryptopunks and Meebits communities do the same. We’ve long admired CryptoPunks, and the work of the project’s founders, Matt & John. They’ve pushed NFTs and the broader crypto world forward, and we’re honored to carry the brands they’ve built into the future we’re building at Yuga. To be clear: the BAYC ecosystem will remain the center of our universe. We believe that what's good for Punks is good for Apes and the rest of the space. Likewise, what's good for Apes is good for Punks. We want to grow the pie, not fight over slices. We're not in a rush to do anything but give people full commercial rights, see what they build, and listen.”
