The Bored Ape Yacht Club released the highly anticipated Mutant Ape Yacht Club and it definitely was insane.
BAYC members across the world were glued to their screens all day as BAYC members received one of three different mutant serums. During the serum release, speculation grew as members pondered what was next.
Hours after the first serums were released, the BAYC made its highly anticipated announcement, introducing the NFT community to the Mutant Ape Yacht Club.
“Strange noises can be heard from the basement of the club,” The BAYC tweeted. “The clinking of glass and the turning of gears . . . The Mutant Ape Yacht Club is now live.”
Apes and non-apes alike quickly made their way into the MAYC to figure out what’s to come. Once inside, apes found a detailed story about the MAYC that introduced the up to, 20,000 mutant apes.
“The MAYC is a way to reward our ape holders with an entirely new NFT—a “mutant” version of their ape—while also allowing newcomers into the BAYC ecosystem at a lower tier of membership,” The clubs website stated. “Mutants represent the final tier of membership; everything going forward occurs with the intention of accruing utility and member’s-only benefits to Bored Apes foremost, but also Mutants, and to a lesser extent, Bored Apes with BAKC companions.”
What followed was a Dutch Auction of 10,000 mutant apes with a starting price of 3 eth or nearly $10,000 USD. These new mutants sold out quickly as many aped into the MAYC.
While some apes had concerns with the addition of up to 20,000 mutant apes, many big names in the BAYC see the mutants as a way to get more people involved in the club.
“DMs are flooded with newbies that minted MAYC, BAYC member NBA Topshot East tweeted. “Love it... Drop your mutants below so we can show you some love and follow #BAYC x #MAYC.”
The idea of getting more apes involved in the community has been on the roadmap since the club’s conception. ““The Mutant Ape (NFT Breeding) Arcade Machine gets fixed,” the BAYC original roadmap states. “And we cook up new ways to ape with our friends.”
After the auction concluded, BAYC members began their mutation process and started receiving their derivative mutant apes. At the time of this articles publication, there were a total of 13,926 mutants with 6964 unique owners and the floor price is 6.49 Eth.
While these numbers are insane, the BAYC heard some members concerns regarding the mutants and answered many of the big questions that apes had post launch.
“Mutant Apes are definitely a part of the club, and come with a lower tier of membership benefits,” Gargamel posted in the community Discord server. “What that means is some utilities will be exclusive to Bored Apes while other utilities will include both, or be tiered. By example: in the case of limited merch drops, some items may be accessible only to BAYC members, some items to both BAYC and MAYC.”
Along with clarifying apes concerns regarding membership, Gargamel also teased an upcoming freebie for the BAYC and MAYC. “Every single Bored Ape and Mutant Ape will receive a free, fully rendered and rigged 3D model that they can use in the metaverse, he said. “We’re working with Polygonal Mind to accomplish this, and given the sheer number of traits, it’s going to take a few months, but we’re really excited. Attached are some work-in-progress renders.”
