PUNKISH POOCHES: This Artist Is Reimagining Beeple’s IRL Regular Animals Robots As CryptoPunks!

From Fast Food Punks to every new chain’s copy paste Punk collection, Web3 has seen its fair share of Punk derivatives over the years, but none have captured the attention of the timeline lately quite like pixel artist Sheipi’s upcoming Regular Punks mint!

Earlier this month, crypto artist Beeple made headlines across Web3, the traditional art world, and even mainstream circles with his robotic billionaire dog exhibit at Art Basel dubbed “Regular Animals.” The installation featured figures like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg running around taking photos and literally shitting digital collectibles and prints.

 

 

Crypto collectors like Cozomo de’ Medici loved it, Sotheby’s former CEO Tad Smith called it an inflection point for digital art, and Sheipi thought, these would look great as CryptoPunks. So he set out to create a work of art!

“At first, I thought it would be hilarious to recreate the dogs in pixel art, and when I thought about which face to stamp on them, Punks was the first and most obvious choice,” he told the paper.

 

With that, he created a Regular Punks artwork featuring nine CryptoPunks as Beeple’s robotic dogs and shared it online, garnering nearly 200,000 views, thousands of likes, and even a retweet and comment from Beeple. “If this were 2021 this would have a 7 ETH floor rn," the artist replied.

 

“you had my curiosity,” OpenSea’s Adam Hollander tweeted. “Now you have my attn. this is amazing lol.”

Following the community’s response, Sheipi decided to turn the concept into a full fledged, 10,000 piece collection that pays homage to both CryptoPunks and Beeple’s work while also incorporating a new fighting game that he designed.

“We’re releasing Regular Punks. Not a regular PFP,” he tweeted. “Your Doggo will fight in the arena for the big prize. Let’s see who’s the toughest.”

 

While we don’t know everything about the mint or the Regular Punks fighting mechanics just yet, we do know it’s launching this Saturday and that Sheipi will be releasing more details Friday.

“10k supply (1:1 with Punks),” he tweeted.  “Fully onchain on Ethereum. WL + public mint. Full mint details tomorrow.
