Sothebys Is Set To Auction A Gold Fur Ape And Dog Next Week. What We Know So Far:
The Bored Ape Yacht Club is heading to Sothebys!
Over the weekend, the art and luxury auction house Sothebys officially announced that it would be auctioning off a gold fur ape and dog in early September.
“It's official,” Sothebys tweeted Saturday afternoon. “For the first time in our 277-year history, apes and kennels are storming Sotheby’s. The @BoredApeYC sale starts September 2. Ape In.”
Sotheby also released a 3D rendered hype video along with the tweet depicting a gold fur ape walking his gold fur pup!
Along with the tweet, Sotheby’s also updated its’ Twitter profile photo to Bored Ape #5809 and Bored Ape Kennel Club Dog #6371
Bored Ape #5809 is a five trait gold fur ape with holographic eyes and a gold hoop earring. Based on these traits, Bored Ape #5809 is the 21st rarest ape, according to Rarity Tools. BAKC Dog #6371 is a clean gold fur dog with closed eyes and a blep mouth. Based on these traits, BAKC Dog #6371 is the #3730 most rare BAKC Dog, according to Rarity Tools.
The Sothebys auction will run from September 2nd thru September 7th. This auction will be the first time bored ape is put up for sale at one of the major auction houses.
While it is unknown how much the ape and dog combination will fetch at Sothebys, the current floor price for a gold fur ape is 888 Eth or $2,930,000 USD and gold fur BAKC dog is 38.8 Eth or $128,000 USD. Based on these floor prices it is very possible that this combination will sell for over $3 million.
