Memes, meaning, and a sustainable revenue model that pushes character IP out of the nest were all explained in a new paper from Moonbirds titled “The Birbillions Thesis.”
Birb becoming the PopMart of Web3 isn’t just a tagline for OrangeCap Games Founder and Moonbirds owner Spencer; it’s the blueprint for getting what he’s building accepted culturally as a meme and taken seriously as a business. And if it all works, he believes birbillions will flock.
Memes move people. Companies endure,” Spencer wrote. “Crypto only works when both are true at the same time. Birb is an attempt to formalize that insight. Not by resolving the tension between absurdity and enterprise, but by locking them together. The meme creates velocity. The company creates gravity. Together they thrive.”
Since taking over Moonbirds from Yuga Labs in the summer of 2025, Spencer has leaned fully into the brand’s misspelling of bird as birb, a move he likens to Dog and Doge. Spencer described this misspelling as a kind of compression algorithm, one that previously helped propel Doge to nearly a hundred billion dollar market cap in past cycles.
At the same time, Spencer has been filling the timeline with Moonbirds’ leading character, formally introducing the internet to Birb, while also rolling out physical products like the limited time Birb Box, which sold more than 68,000 units in a single day.
By combining meme culture, character driven IP, and real world manufacturing, Spencer believes he and his team have cracked a formula that gives crypto something it often lacks, meaning that can actually scale.
“The birbillions thesis is simply the claim that this loop can scale. That a meme, when paired with real manufacturing and real distribution, does not decay, but rather compounds. If crypto is to matter beyond itself, it will not be because it finally convinced the world it was serious. It will be because it learned how to be real without stopping being ridiculous.”
As the Gazette previously reported, Moonbirds’ memecoin $Birb is slated to have its token generation event later this quarter. Many are expecting a significant launch, with airdrops anticipated for Moonbirds, Mythics, Oddities, and the brand’s Soulbound token claimers. Some also believe Birb Box buyers could receive an allocation based on the scannable QR codes included in their physical products, though for now, all of that remains squawk.
