Dong Socks is bricked up and bored after rejoining the Bored Ape Yacht Club in a full circle moment years in the making.
This Mutant Monday was extra insane as one of ApeChain’s biggest builders, Dong Socks, traded 0.8 ETH and his grail Gold Gob for Mutant Ape #25162 through Yuga Labs’ GrailsOTC desk.
yO. fiRST hoUR as a nEW muTAnT,” Dong Sock tweeted after his pick up. “Been a SupERFAn frOM the vErY beGinniNG and so PuMPED to fiNaLLy maKE it HaPPeN! I wAnT to CoNNEct wiTH EvERy aPE aNd MutANT! the SoCK StAYS on.”
For Dong Socks, today’s primate pickup means more than just joining the best club on the internet. It’s a full circle moment he’s been working toward for years.
Back in 2021, just weeks after the BAYC mint, Dong Socks had his Ape, Bored Ape #6061, stolen from him.
“It feels incredible to rejoin the club,” he said. “I actually bought my first ape off Pranksy for .4e waaaay back. ended up getting scammed while trying to trade before there were even mutants and then the floor took off and I was priced out forever.”
While getting robbed sucked, and Dong Socks admits there were some dark days afterward, he loved NFTs too much to leave Web3 behind. Years later, when ApeChain launched, he saw an opportunity to rebuild and reconnect with the community he always felt he was supposed to be a part of.
“Dropped the $socks coin the first week of ApeChain and it shot up to $300k mc (Iwas not ready for it to go that fast tbh) and got so much support from different ppl, very grateful. i launched the DS NFTs very soon after (free mint on Blever) and have been vibin on apechain/otherside since.”
While vibing out with his sock on, Dong Socks and his community were allowlisted for GobsOnApe, where he ended up minting a Gold Gob that would eventually help trade his way back into the swamp.
“I had no idea at the time what would happen with them but didn’t really care then.,” he said. “Apechain is absolutely STACKED with creative, helpful people and I have loved it the whole way. I highly encourage any apes who haven’t checked out the NFT communities on Apechain to do it.”
Now officially back in the club, Dong Socks says he wants to use the moment to shine a light on the builders and communities that helped him get here.
“Feels awesome to help put a spotlight on all the dope builders on ApeChain,” he said. “I’m super grateful for all of this. Shoutout to the Yuga team especially James for having the balls to build in public and being good humans.”
The Gazette will continue to follow Dong Socks and will let you know who joins the swamp next. Stay tuned for updates!
